The Drum Change Process

Release drum clamps.

Turn elevator control valve to the up position.

Let the elevator raise all the way to the top.

Use caution as you raise the elevator so you don’t pinch the compressed air or grease supply hoses.

Press the drum ejector button. Doing so will force air between the ram plate and empty drum bottom.

Release drum ejector button as you get close to the top. Doing so will let the compressed air energy dissipate.

Guide the drum to keep it straight..

Place the new drum near the ram/pump
Clean the top of the ram plate as small parts or other foreign material may have collected.

Also clean the top of the drum cover.
Note that the ram plate bleeder probe is in place.

Remove the ram plate bleeder probe. The ram plate bleeder port will allow the bleeding of air between the ram plate and the grease.

Using the probe, clean out the grease that blocks the ram plate bleeder port.
This can be done from the underside of the ram plate.

If you can see a clear passage to the ground it is clear enough.

Concave the grease by taking a piece of cardboard and transferring the grease from the center of the drum and up the side of the drum. You want the center to look lower.

We do this so the air is pushed to the center and out the ram plate bleeder port as the ram plate is pushed into the drum.

Next center the new drum into position under the ram plate.

Move the ram/pump elevator control valve to the down position. It is very important that the ram plate air bleeder port is open so that the air between the grease and the ram plate can escape.

Adjust the air pressure to the elevator if more down force is required.

Next you will see grease being pushed out the ram plate air bleeder port.

If you don’t see grease coming out you may need to raise the air pressure to generate more down force.

Install the ram plate bleeder probe. If you have difficulty getting the probe installed you can put the elevator control valve in the center and this will reduce the pressure

Next open the pump tube bleeder valve. This is used to bleed air that is trapped inside the pump tube.

It is very important to get all the air out of the pump tube.

To tell if the air is completely gone watch the pump tube movement as it cycles. A smooth pump change over action indicates that no air is being compressed.

It is very important to get the air bleed out at this point to assure that airless grease is transferred to the dispensers.

Slowly turn the air motor venting ball valve on to cycle the pump.

Holding a piece of cardboard capture the grease that contains air. A sputtering or popping noise will be heard as the air is expelled. When airless grease of present close the pump tube bleeder.
